African Adventure Tours was established in August 2002 and licensed as a ground tour operator by the Gambia Tourism Authority, and also as a travel agent by the Gambia Civil Aviation Authority. A dynamic working environment, combined with innovative programs, have made us one of the best and fastest growing Ground Tour operators in the country. This has been achieved by the dedication and commitment to quality service of our professional team of staff. In the past years we have handled thousands of tourists exploring the Gambia and Senegal. Recently we explored Guinea-Bissau and we are in the process of adding this new and exciting destination to our excursions and round trips.

We own a fleet of air-conditioned coaches, mini coaches, land rovers, trucks and boats. Our well situated office is fully computerised and has been equipped with all the necessary tools for smooth destination management.

As a company we are dedicated to quality service for our customers, and over the years we have developed a good reputation and an excellent relationship with hotels and suppliers.

Our team consist of seven members responsible for the logistics, reservations and ticketing, and 20 experienced enthusiastic drivers and guides, with the expertise to handle our complete package of excursions and round trips.

This is a 2 day / 1 night excursion exposing you to the interior of the Gambia. It will enable you to explore the Countryside and the majestic River Gambia – the main characteristic feature of the country. The means of transport will be an air-conditioned minibus. Guests are picked up from the hotels in the early morning of the excursion; we drive through Banjul to the ferry terminal where we join a ferry to Barra. On arrival at Barra, we shall pass through several villages, with stops on the way. Visits on way to the camp include the Wassu Stones circles dating 2000 years back; we also visit a local family before proceeding to the camp. At Janjanbureh, we proceed to Sensending Camp, an African style Camp, beautifully situated on the bank of the river. After dinner, dancers depicting the various tribes in the Gambia will entertain us. The following day after breakfast we visit Janjanbureh Island and then we join a Gambian Pirogue for a 3-4 hours trip to Kuntaur. During the boat trip, there will be possibilities to see Hippos, Baboons, Monkeys and various facets of birds within this fascinating ecosystem. A great experience is the visit to Baboon Island to feed the Chimpansees. From Kuntaur we join the minibus and proceed back via the South bank, crossing with a ferry fro Farafenni to the hotels. This is an intensive excursion, enabling you to explore the Gambia in 2 days.

The Fathala Game Park is located at 12 kms of the north of The Gambian / Senegalese boarder to Senegal. In the early morning, we will drive you from your hotel to drive to Banjul, the Capital City to join the ferry to cross on the river Gambia to Barra in the North Bank division of the river. There are wonderful things to see on the ferry such as the hustle and bustle with the local people. After about an hour sailing on board of the ferry, and upon arriving at Barra, we continue our journey on road. Before reaching Amdalaye/Karang–Gambian/Senegalese Borders for passport formalities, you will see numberous villages and the local people doing one thing or the other. We then enter Senegal and drive for approx 30 minutes to reach the Fathala Park. In Fathala, a 4 x 4 ex- army truck will drive us for 2 hours safari in the park In the reserve, you can enjoy the natural environment of the bush and, get the chance to spot animals as zebras, rhinoceros, giraffes, monkeys and other species of animals After that, you will enjoy a nice packed lunch and drink before departing back to the boarder to catch the ferry to back to Banjul

This is a full-day excursion based on the famous book “ROOTS’ written by the Afro-American Author, ALEX HALEY. This excursion will enable guests to explore the River Gambia and the Countryside. Departing from your hotel, we proceed to the harbor of Banjul, where we embark on the boat from Banjul we sail to St. James Island. St. James Island is strategically situated within the mouth of the River Gambia. This Island was used as a base during the Atlantic Slave Trade. The island has been declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. After visiting the Island, and after we enjoyed a nice buffet lunch, we proceed on the boat to Albreda, and walk for ten minutes to the famous village of Juffureh, the ancestral home of Kunta Kinteh, the main character in the book Roots. Here we shall visit the museum before proceeding to visit the Kinteh Family. After visiting the main institutions in the village, we join our boat and cruise back to Banjul, with a good chance to spot the many dolphins who like to accompany the boat.
